Introduction:
***5 is a variant of the older ***4 chromium-nickel-copper precipitation hardening stainless steel. Both alloys exhibit high strength and moderate corrosion resistance. High strength is maintained to approximately **0 degrees F. The ***5 alloy was designed to have greater toughness than ***4. This improved toughness is achieved by reduced delta ferrite content and control of inclusion size and shape.
***5 ph stainless steel for a variety of industries including aerospace, petrochemical, and pulp & paper factories. Stainless Steel ***5 is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel designed to have a greater toughness than ***4 ph stainless steel. It is used in applications requiring better corrosion resistance and transverse properties compared to other similar martensitic grades. Strength and toughness desired can be altered by temperate range in the heat treatment process.
The composition of UNS S****0 includes small amounts of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, columbium (or niobium), tantalum, silicon. ****0 can be forged, welded and formed. Machining may be performed in the solution-annealed state or in the final heat treat condition. Desired mechanical properties such as ductility and strength can be achieved through heating the material at various temperatures.
UNS S****0 is a martensitic precipitation hardening grade. Martensitic stainless steels were designed as a type of alloy which is corrosion resistant and could also be hardened through heat treatment.
