Description: White to yellow white crystal or
crystalline powder. Odorless or slight odor. Slightly bitter taste.
Melting point is **9 ℃ (decomposition). Colored in long light.
Heated with water produces a small amount of indole. Heating in the
presence of sodium hydroxide, copper sulphate produced
indole. Heated tryptophan and acid in the dark, which more
stable. Easily decompose with other amino acids, sugars, aldehydes.
It is stable which heated with 5mol / L sodium hydroxide to **5 ℃
if no hydrocarbon coexistence. Decomposed protein by acid, the
tryptophan completely decomposed, producing rot black material.
Slightly soluble in water (1.1g/**0ml, *5 ℃), soluble in hot water,
hot ethanol, dilute hydrochloric acid and alkaline hydroxide
solution.
Application: Nutritional
supplements. Antioxidants. L-tryptophan is an important
neurotransmitter in the human body
5 - hydroxytryptophan precursor, is
one of the essential amino acids the human body.
