When a *2kV overhead distribution line (Line T) is connected to a branch line or if an internal user fault occurs, improper adjustment of the timing between the line switch protection and the substation outlet switch protection can cause the substation outlet switch to trip. If the fault is permanent, any attempt by the substation to restore power will fail, leading to a power outage along the entire *2kV distribution line in a medium-voltage user community.

Installing an outdoor junction breaker at the T-junction or at the customer's boundary (the responsibility demarcation point) can prevent this issue. This breaker will localize faults, such as overcurrent, short circuits, or single-phase grounding, ensuring that faults in specific areas do not result in outages across the entire distribution line.

 

When the user boundary is clearly defined and faults are automatically isolated, users in unaffected areas can continue to receive power without interruption.
