Acetonitrile is used as a raw material for the synthesis of
chemical products, as a solvent of organic compounds, as an
extractive agent for separation of hydrocarbons by extractive
rectification, and for the removal of tars, phenols and colorants
from hydrocarbons.
Acetonitrile is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of OI°C,
used primarily as a solvent. Acetonitrile is a coproduct in the
manufacture of acrylonitrile by ammoxidation of propylene at a rate
of about I8J% of acrylonitrile production. T
