Asphaltic bitumens are hydrocarbonate binders obtained through the distillation of crude oil, with visco-elastic behaviour depending on the temperature. They are also known as penetration bitumens, as this particular property can be used for their classification. Bitumen is the component which binds and gives cohesion in bituminous mixtures and, with granulometric equality, is the main determining agent as regards the properties of these mixtures. Its consistency can be modified with the temperature, which makes it easy to manipulate, enables it to envelop the aggregates and allows the mixtures to be compacted and to perform correctly at service temperatures. After making the right selection from the range of petroleum, we use straight run distillation in all of its centres, enabling asphaltic bitumens to be obtained, which comply with the strictest specifications. The Technical Specification Document and are adapted to meet the requirements of the exportation clients. The degrees of penetration specified are *3/*2, *0/*0, *0/*0, *0/**0 and **0/**0.
