Salt licks provide necessary minerals and micro-elements for animals, to complement their diet. Also, salt leaks keep animals
in healthy condition. Livestock should have unrestricted access to salt lick at all the time and all year round as they would to water. Animals that live outside. And feed on grass will need it most. This is because grass especially (young grass), is not the best source of minerals. Winter food would also need to be complemented with salt licks as they may lack some of the ingredients especially if animal food has not been produced in right condition and within right environment.
