Through our application we are trying to solve the problems such as
1) wastage of time due to for the free parking lots as most of the car parks are manually managed and inefficient.
2) Thereby reducing the
traffic congestion and air pollution in the surrounding
areas.

We have successfully programmed LABVIEW to update the physical
parking status with help of IR sensor modules which was our great
challenge and also proper reservation is achieved with a help of
GSM module SIM

In metropolitan cities, most of the car parks are manually managed and inefficient. The owners of the car do not know the current status of their desired parking area so they gamble for free parking lots. This gambling causes wastage of time, severe traffic congestion around the parking areas which in turn leads to air pollution and fuel wastage. A recent survey shows that, during rush hours traffic generated by cars searching for parking space takes up to *0% of the total traffic.
To address these problems, we propose a system called RESERVATION BASED CAR PARKING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. Our system eases the finding of free spaces in the parking lot by identifying and displaying the available information of parking spaces. To increase the smartness of our system, we also provide reservation based parking that overcomes the main problem multiple-car-chasing-single-space.
The status of the parking lots are monitored using IR modules. The IR module has both IR transmitter and receiver. When a car enters in any free parking lot, it is detected by the IR sensors and send to the control system which is programmed using LABVIEW through DAQ.The NI ELVIS 2 prototyping board is used as a DAQ system. The output from the DAQ is read through interfacing digital reader of NI ELVIS in LABVIEW. Hence the status gets updated and displayed. The number of free and occupied lots and the status of the lots are made visible to the users through display unit.
The next phase of the project is Reservation. It is made possible through GSM module SIM **0. First to know status the user has to send a message (SMS) CHECK to control system. On decoding this message controlled system replies a welcome message with the info about the lots. If the user finds a free lot he/she can reserve a one by sending an SMS RESERVE. Following this control system assures the user about the lot number that was reserved for him/her.
Thus it reduces the gambling time for free parking spaces by displaying its status and by providing reservation service thereby alleviating traffic congestion. Also our system minimises the driving distance, mitigating fuel wastage and air pollution.
