The Gejia, although classified as Miao in the list of China's *5 minority groups, are in fact a separate group with their own language and costume. Gejia is famous for the art of batik. Gejia women begin to learn the ancient craft of wax printing at the age of eight or nine. By their adult years, they are skilled at batik, petit point and embroidery. Festival clothes�The girls all wear a red tassel hat with a silver hairpin in the middle of hat top and the clothes have three colours red�white and blue with various patterns�and the trousers have red embroidery around the legs�a silver necklace�a ruching skirt around the waist and a corset outside the skirt. Actually�they wear simply usually and only have these colourful clothes when it is festival.
