Florfenicol is a derivative of thiamphenicol. It is significantly
more active in vitro than chloramphenicol against many different
strains of bacteria. It is a better alternative to chloramphenicol,
which can cause blood dyscrasias and is prohibited for use in
food-producing animals in many different countries.
