Soybean meal also known as Soyabean Oil Cake is a solid residue bi-product, flour,
created after grinding the soybean to extract soybean oil.
It is widely used as a filler and source of protein in animal diets, including pig, chicken, cattle, horse, sheep, and fish feed.
Soybean meal is preferably made from high quality, sound, clean, dehulled yellow beans, since beans with a dark colored seed coat,
or even beans with a dark hilum will inadvertently leave undesirable dark specks in the flour.
All commercial soybeans in the United States are yellow or yellow brown.

Chick studies indicated that the SBM processed from soybeans with reduced oligosaccharides contained higher ME compared to conventional SBM. > Soybean meals produced from soybeans with reduced trypsin inhibitors can have positive effects on the ME value and amino acid digestibilities are less clear for poultry. > Norwegian researchers reported large water-insolube molecules in bacterial meal added to salmon diets could reduce SBM-induced enteritis. > Soybean meal can replace *5% of the fish meal in a ****0% protein juvenile crawfish diet without affecting performance. > The crude protein level commercial layer diets could be reduced by supplementing selected amino acid without adversely impacting performance. |
