1、Properties
   Green petroleum coke is black or dark grey solid petroleum product with metallic luster,porous and  carbonaceous solid which is formed by tiny crystallized graphite.The components of petroleum coke are hydrocarbons containing *0%**7% carbon,1.5%*8% hydrogen and nitrogen,chlorine,sulfur and heavy metal compounds.
  Petroleum coke is a carbonaceous solid delivered from oil refinery coker units or other cracking processes.Coking processes that can be employed for making petcoke include contact coking, fluid coking, flexicoking and delayed coking. Other coke has traditionally been delivered from coal.
2、Types and main application
  The main application of petroleum coke is pre-baked anode and anode paste for electrolytic aluminum,carbon industry production of graphite carbon additive,graphite electrode,smelting industrial silicon and fuel ect.Accroding to the structure and apperance of green petroleum coke，it can be divided into four basic types,namely,needle coke, honeycomb coke, sponge coke and shot coke：
 （1）Needle coke:also called acicular coke, is a highly crystalline petroleum coke used in the production of electrodes for the steel and aluminium industries and is particularly valuable because the electrodes must be replaced regularly. Needle coke is produced exclusively from either FCC decant oil or coal tar pitch.
 （2）Sponge coke:The chemical reactivity is high and the impurity content is low,mainly used in aluminum smelting industry and carbon industry.
 （3）Honeycomb coke ：Honeycomb coke is an intermediate coke, with ellipsoidal pores that are uniformly distributed. Compared to needle coke, honeycomb coke has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and a lower electrical conductivity.
 （4）Shot coke：Through fluidization process,the size of coke particles is finer,the volatility thermal coefficient of expansion is high which can not be directly used for electrode and carbon industry.In accordance with different sulfur content,it can be divided into high-sulfur petroleum coke(sulfur content more that 3%) and low-sulfur petroleum coke(sulfur content less than 3%).Low-sulfur petroleum coke can be used as anode paste and pre-baked anode for aluminum factory and graphite electrode for steel factory.High quality of low-sulfur petroleum coke（sulfur content less than 0.5%） can be used as production of graphite electrode and graphite carbon additive;the general quality(sulfur content less than 1.5%） usually used as production of pre-baked anode;low quality mainly can be used as smelting industrial silicon and production of anode paste.High-sulfur petroleum coke usually can be used as fuel of cement plant and power plant.
