Wuhu Iron Picture, which was invented by Tang Tianchi, a folk artisan living in Qing Dynasty, has become one of the most famous handicrafts in China. The handicraftsmen use iron as ink and the hammer as brush to draw pictures, imitating the traditional Chinese painting in structure and content. Due to its specific material and process, the iron picture appears sharp contrast between black figures and the white background, with a vivid three dimension view. The Guest-Greeting Pine set in the Great Hall of the People and the iron characters Long March (a poem by Mao Zedong) in Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall are two of the outstanding representative works. Relying on its artistic charm, Wuhu iron picture was selected among the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
