Milling machines use rotary motion cutters mounted on a spindle to remove material from the workpiece. The different types of milling machines are commonly classified by the axial movement of their cutters along the X and Y axes, resulting in the three broad types - the horizontal milling machine, the vertical one and the universal milling machine where the spindle can move along both axes.
