Gold dust refers to tiny particles or flakes of gold, often collected as a byproduct of mining or panning for gold in rivers and streams. Unlike gold nuggets or bars, gold dust is not a solid, unified piece but rather a collection of very fine gold particles, usually less than a millimeter in size. These particles can vary in color from bright yellow to a darker hue depending on their purity and the presence of other minerals.

Gold dust is often found in placer deposits, where gold has been eroded from larger gold-bearing rocks and then transported by water. The particles are collected through panning, sluicing, or other methods designed to separate gold from other sediments.

Due to its small size and the fact that it is often mixed with other materials, gold dust usually needs to be refined to obtain pure gold. It is frequently used in various applications, including gold leaf production, jewelry making, and sometimes even in specialty food items or decorative arts.
