Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is one system that can send small
part of the exhaust gas generated by the diesel engine back to the
cylinder.The
combustion process will be
postponed due to the inertness of recirculating exhaust gas.
That is to say the
combustion speed will be slowed down, which will slow down
thepressure
forming process in thecombustor.
This is the main reason for the reduction of nitrogen
oxides.In
addition, the increase of the exhaust gas recirculation rate will
decrease the total volume of the exhaust
gas,
hence the total outputs of
the pollutants emissions will be relatively
reduced.EGR
system’s task is to make the amount ofthe
exhaust gas recirculation achieve the best state in each operating
point, so that the combustion process will always be under the
ideal situation, which can guarantee the ultimate pollution
composition of emissions will be the
lowest.When
the amount of the exhaust gas recirculation changes, it will have
different even the opposite effects on different pollution
ingredients, so the so-called best state is usually
acompromised
solution which can make the total emissions of the relevant
pollutants achieve the best.For
example, although the increase of the exhaust gas recirculation
rate will have a positive impact on reducing the emissions of the
nitrogen oxides (NOx), it will have some bad effects on the
increasing of particulate matter and other
pollutants.
