Physical Description / Properties
Sodium Formate:White crystalline powder with water absorbing performance and slight formic acid odour, soluble in water glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol, not soluble in ether. Its melting point is **3°C.
Synthetic method: carbon monoxide taken from coke, react with caustic soda and be evaporated and dried out.
By product: pentaerythritol
Storage / Transport
Store in a dry, cool and well ventilated place.
Product is hygroscopic, therefore moisture should be avoided and product must be kept from strong acids and oxidants.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling product. Dust formation may create air/dust explosive mixtures.
The explosive characteristics of dust should be taken into account for equipment and storage tanks design.
Uses
Used in Leather tanning, Dye and pigment manufacturing, Chemical synthesis.
Used in catalyst and stabilizer compositions, and in the printing and dyeing of textiles as a reducing agent.
