R***4a (1,1,1,*-tetrafluoroethane) is a clear, colorless gas with a
faint ethereal odor. As a non-ozone-depleting, environmentally
safer single component HFC refrigerant, it is a very efficient and
safe replacement for R**2 in several air-conditioning and
refrigeration applications. R***4a possesses similar energy
efficiency and capacity characteristics as R**2, has an
intrinsically low toxicity, and is recognized as a superior
long-term solution in many applications. It can be used in
automotive air conditioning, appliances, small stationary
equipment, medium temperature supermarket cases, and industrial and
commercial chillers.
