The EU electrical engineering market is the world's largest one (€**1 bn), followed by the US and Japan (€*6 bn and €*4 bn).

There are two main European Directives that apply to electrical and electronic equipment with respect to health, safety and performance: The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) ***6/*5/EC. The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive ***4/**8/EC.

Only EU notified body and EU National Cerification Bodies (NCB) can issue CE legally. For the products if CE mark abused, it should be subject to recall from the market immediately and the manufacturer or economic operators may be liable to a fine and, in some circumstances, imprisonment.

Manufacturer must establish the technical documentation and must keep it for a period ending at least *0 years after the last product has been manufactured.

Technical documentation must enable the conformity of the electrical equipment to the requirements of this Directive to be assessed. It must include:

- a general description of the electrical equipment;

- conceptual design and manufacturing drawings and schemes of components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc.;

- descriptions and explanations necessary for the understanding of said drawings and schemes and the operation of the electrical equipment;

- a list of the standards applied in full or in part, and descriptions of the solutions adopted to satisfy the safety aspects of this Directive where standards have not been applied;

- results of design calculations made, examinations carried out, etc.;

- test reports.
