The aloe vera extract is available as a range of products,
including gel juice, whole leaf juice, gel dried powder, whole leaf
dried powder and diced gel in juice. Both decolorized and
non-decolorized products are available. The aloe vera extract can
be used as a thickening agent for drinks and ice creams. But it
cannot be added into drinks with alcohol because precipitation may
occur.
Aloe vera contains both glycoproteins and polysaccharides.
Glycoproteins have healing effect and polysaccharides have soothing
and moisturizing effects to skin. Therefore the aloe vera extract
is often added into cosmetic products such as makeup, tissues,
moisturizers, soaps, sunscreens, incense, shaving cream and
shampoos. Various components of aloe (aloin, aloe-emodin, and
barbaloin) are used as laxatives.
