At high temperature, the liquid silicon is infiltrated in carbon-contained body, and formed into silicon carbide through reaction with carbon; the body is sintered and high-compactness ceramic materials are produced. The process is for preparing products with large size and complex shapes, and can be used in acid or alkali media with medium concentration.
The high-purity, high-density, low-porosity and non-free-silicon carbide ceramics are made from high-purity sub-micron silicon carbide powder and additives pressed into biscuit, by pressureless sintering at high temperature. The ceramics can be used in seals, bearings, nozzles and valve bushes of chemicals and slurry pumps under such operating conditions as high corrosion, high rotary speed, high wear resistance and high temperature, and are also ideal materials for making armor plates.
