LENTINAN FOR INJECTION
A non-toxic anti-tumor polysaccharide from the shitake mushroom. In
Japan, Lentinan, an extract from the mushroom has been used against
colorectal and stomach cancer, often in conjunction with other
treatment such as chemotherapy, and Japanese researches have
presented data supporting this use. Like most of the other
polysaccharide drugs, Lentinan appears to be an immunostimulant.
Almost all of the Japanese studies have used injected lentinan, so
it is very unclear whether eating shitake mushrooms could have a
beneficial effect aside from the considerable culinary virtues.
Pharmacokinetics:
After injection, Lentinan is rapidly and completely absorbed. Peak
plasma concentrations are reached within one hour and elimination
takes place with a half-life of 1.9 hours. It is distributed in the
liver, the spleen, the lungs, the kidneys and so on and it is
eliminated almost via urine.
Indications:
Lentinan is indicated for many malignancies, especially for
digestive and
respiratory tract cancers. It can coordinate the action of
chemotherapy,
improve life quality and prolong survival time.
