Bitter kola nuts are derived from an evergreen flowering plant, the garcinia tree. It grows in tropical African forest. They have brown husk while the nuts are white. Unlike kola nuts, they dont contain caffeine though they also have a bitter taste. They contain crude protein, lipid extract, ash and crude fiber.

Bitter kola contains high sources of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, fiber, calcium, potassium and iron and thus has diverse health benefits.
