Cumin?
Cumin is an aromatic spice with a distinctive bitter flavor and
strong, warm aroma due to its abundant oil content. Cumin "seeds"
are actually the small dried fruit of an annual plant in the
parsley family. Indian Cumin seeds are the best in the world.It
grows well in hot climates. It is mainly used for seasoning
dishes.
Cumin seeds are used in various cuisines. It is also used in
beverages, liquors, medicines, toiletries and perfumery. Indian
Cumin has a good demand in export market in its Natural form as
well in its Powder Form. Cumin has a lot of medicinal
properties.
Cultivation.
Cumin is a drought-tolerant, tropical, or subtropical crop. It has
a growth season of **0 **0 days. The optimum growth temperature
ranges are between *5 and *0 °C. The Mediterranean climate is
most suitable for its growth. Cultivation of cumin requires a long,
hot summer of three to four months. At low temperatures, leaf
colour changes from green to purple. High temperature might reduce
growth period and induce early ripening. In India, cumin is sown
from October until the beginning of December, and harvesting starts
in February.
