EacoArt is a green to brown powder, which consists of Artemisia Annua by enzymatical treatment. The natural Artemisia Annua herbs or plant-derived compounds have been demonstrated to possess antioxidant activity in vitro (Zheng and Wang, ***1; Cai et al., ***4; Wong et al., ***6), and widely used as feed additives in experimental animals to promote growth performance and improve antioxidant ability. However, plant cell wall limits the dissolution of bioactive substances, therefore, unfavorable to the utilization of natural functional components of plants (Puri et al., ***2).
Enzymes such as cellulase, hemicellulase, pectinase and pancreatin either in combination or alone can assist extraction of bioactive compounds from herbs environment friendly and effectively (Sowbhagya and Chitra, ***0), to disrupt cell wall matrix and thereby improve extractability and release of plant-based bioactive substances (Puri et al., ***2).
