Molecular Sieve Desiccant has become the popular choice for removing water from liquids and gases. Molecular Sieve works more effectively than silica gel and activated alumina desiccants because of its structure. 
The sieve contains tiny pores that are consistent in size and shape.The small molecules that can pass through the openings are adsorbed while larger molecules are not. Unlike a common filter, these sieves trap the adsorbed molecules. Because of their adsorption capacity molecular sieves are often used as desiccants. They are able to separate and adsorb water up to *2% of its own weight, inside of liquids and gases, without changing the chemical structure. In addition, molecular sieves are exceptionally versatile, with adsorption possible based on molecular size, molecular affinity for the sieve crystal surface, or even the shape of the molecule. For these reasons, molecular sieve desiccants can produce gases or liquids that are virtually water free.
 
Molecular Sieve Adsorption Capabilities
3A (pore size 3 Angstrom): Adsorbs NH3, H2O, (not C2H6), good for drying polar liquids.
4A (pore size 4 Angstrom): Adsorbs H2O, CO2, SO2, H2S, C2H4, C2H6, C3H6, and ethanol. Will not adsorb C3H8 and higher hydrocarbons. Good for drying nonpolar liquids and gases.
5A (pore size 5 Angstrom): Adsorbs normal (linear) hydrocarbons to n-C4H*0,  alcohols to C4H9OH, and mercaptans to C4H9SH.  Will not adsorb iso compounds or ring structures with more than four carbon atoms.
*0x (pore size 8 Angstrom): Adsorbs branched hydrocarbons and aromatics. Used for drying gases.
*3x (pore size *0 Angstrom): Adsorbs di-n-butylamine (not tri-n-butylamine).  Used for drying HMPA.
