Okra is grown in the tropical and warm temperate zone of the world for its fibrous fruit, which contains many round white seeds.    The fruit is harvested young and eaten as a vegetable. The fruit is a capsule up to *0 cm long.

Frango com quiabo (chicken with okra) is a dish in Brazilian cuisine, especially famous in the Minas Gerais area. Gumbo, a stew with okra, is quite popular in the Gulf of Mexico region of the United States. It is also the ingredient that makes callaloo, a Caribbean dish and national dish of Trinidad & Tobago.
