Types:There are many different types (or series) of coax adapters and each is designed for a specific purpose and application. Frequency, power, and impedance ratings often vary between these types.
Gender:Most coax adapters are male-female gender; however, some coax adapters are unisex such as the HP 7mm, Amphenol APC*7, and General Radio GR**4 or GR**0.
Frequency:The frequency range of any coax adapter is limited by the opposing side of the adapter. For instance, if one end of an adapter has a SMA configuration (~*8GHz), and the other end has is BNC (~4GHz), then the adapter must be de-rated to the maximum frequency of the side with the lowest frequency rating.
