Zirconia corundum is produced in an electric arc furnace at
temperatures in excess of ***0°C. Zirconia is very thermally
stable to high temperatures (excellent thermal shock resistance),
has low thermal conductivity, and is chemically inert.

3.Usage
Zirconia is also not wetted by many metals and
glasses and is therefore an excellent contact material in the
existence of slags. Zirconia can also be combined with alumina to
make a tough abrasive grain used in bonded and coated abrasives.
Fused Zirconia is used in steel and glass contact refractories,
investment casting as shell building material, as wear resistant
coatings, thermal barrier coatings, and other applications that
require high temperature, wear resistance, and frequent thermal
cycling.
