DDR5 represents the newest generation of enterprise and consumer memory. While functional DDR5 ***0MT/s modules hold significant resale value in IT asset recovery, end-of-life, mechanically damaged, or locked modules offer excellent base and precious metal recovery yields for bulk recyclers.
Like previous generations, DDR5 memory is classified as high-grade e-waste due to the heavy concentration of precious metals required for data transmission.
Gold Recovery: The primary scrap value comes from the edge connectors (gold fingers). DDR5 utilizes a ***-pin (UDIMM/RDIMM) or ***-pin (SO-DIMM) layout. While pin counts are higher than older generations, modern manufacturing uses thinner gold plating. Average consumer DDR5 modules yield approximately 0.*3g of gold per unit, heavily concentrated on the connectors.
Palladium & Silver: Trace amounts of palladium and silver are heavily concentrated in the memory ICs (Integrated Circuits) and surface-mounted capacitors.
Copper & Tin: DDR5 contains high-density, multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs) that yield excellent copper recovery once the precious metals are stripped.
When assessing DDR5 against DDR4 or DDR3 scrap, the physical architecture of the board has changed, which slightly alters the material yield:
