Our coffee comes from Kikai Farmers' Co-Operative society, and
adjacent co-operative societies in Mt. Elgon District, Western
province of Kenya. The region produces about ***0 metric tons of
traditional Arabica varieties per year. The coffee from the
mountain gets some of it's character from the volcanic,
mineral-rich soils, and year-round rains.
Kikai Farmers' Co-Operative Society is made of ***6 registered
members. It is a Fair Trade Certified coffee producer.
It is our primary producer, which also produces the beans of the
best quality. Their coffee is farmerd between the altitudes of ***0
and ***0 metres, on the Southern slopes of Mt. Elgon. The coffee is
grown entirely without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, shaded
by fruit trees. The coffee plantations are typically of one acre,
or half a hectare in size. We could call that coffee from Mt. Elgon
is one of the best Arabica coffees in the World, and absolutely one
of the best in Kenya.
