Cold pressed hemp oil is dark to clear light green in color, with a very light and pleasant nutty flavour. It's the only vegetable oil that has an ideal amount of unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic, linolenic and gamma-linolenic acids. Hemp oil is rich in omega*3 fatty acids. It does not contain cholesterol and it improves cellular metabolism and immune system. Hemp oil is essential in wholesome cold kitchen, but it is not suitable for high temperatures (it should not be heated over **0°C). The most common fatty acid is unsaturated linoleic acid (omega*6 fatty acid), followed by unsaturated alpha-linoleic acid (omega*3 fatty acid). Both of these fatty acids are ESSENTIAL fatty acid and their importance in human diet is great. Since human organism can't synthesize them, they should be a part of our daily food intake. Optimum proportion of fatty acids for human consumption is 1:3 (one part linoleic/omega*3 acid and three parts linolenic/omega*6 acid, which can only be found in hemp oil. Human organism requires both acids and gamma-linolenic acid for hormone regulation, maintenance and proper functioning of immune system and cell metabolism maintenance. This fatty acid proportion is also especially important for cell membrane structures. Proper usage of hemp oil in human consumption does not lead to problems with 'bad cholesterol' (type-A LDL), a situation quite unlike that one in which solid vegetable and animal fats are used.
 
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is contained in hemp oil in amounts from 1,5% to 6%, is the most important compound for human organism that can be found in said oil. GLA is also contained in only three more plants: borage (borrage officinalis L.), evening primrose (Oenothera biennia L.) and black currant (Ribes nigrum L.), but these extracts can only be consumed in pill form. Hemp oil is the only edible oil that contains GLA. GLA and recently discovered omega**-stearidon are important compounds for biosynthesis of prostaglandin and they are essential for proper functioning of hormones, nerves, muscles and regulation of blood pressure. Human body in normal condition has large enough reserves of alpha-linolenic acid for prostaglandin production.But, if human organism suffers from stress, poor diet and genetic errors, there is an ALA deficit which can lead to infectious diseases. GLA has proven to be perfect for preventing diseases like atherosclerosis (congestion of blood vessels), prevention and mitiation of neurodermatitis and other alergies.
 
 
 
Thanks to its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (*5%), hemp oil is ideal for human consumption (it's reccomendable to use it in diet of either sick or healthy human beings). In oils that contain saturated fatty acids most of these fats get 'broken' – some of them are used to produce energy, while some of them get stored in fat deposits (cholesterol). Unsaturated fatty acids play an important role in synthesis of important hormones, maintenance of immune system and improvement of cell metabolism. Since hemp oil doesn't contain 'bad' cholesterols nor transfat acids, well regulated intake of hemp oil balances blood lipids and prevents atherosclerosis, strokes and heart attacks.
