Ginger is a tropical flowering plant and it is classified as a
member of the Zingiberaceae family, making it a close relative if
turmeric. Scientifically, it is known called Zingiber offinale.
Gingers root or rhizome is the part commonly used as a spice or
medicine. Ginger comes in different variety, the root can be
yellow, red, or white. It is harvested by pulling the entire plant
out of the soil, removing the leaves and cleaning the root.
Ginger can e eaten fresh, dried and stored as a spice, or made into
tablets, capsules and liquid extracts.
Ginger contains about 2% of essential oil in its root, which is
used in the cosmetic industry as a fragrance in soaps and beauty
