Betel nuts, also known as areca nuts, are the seeds of the areca
palm tree. They are commonly chewed in many parts of Asia for their
stimulating effects. Betel nuts are often wrapped in betel leaves
with lime and sometimes other spices or sweeteners, forming a
popular chew known as "betel quid." While they provide a temporary
feeling of alertness and euphoria, prolonged use can lead to health
issues such as mouth and throat cancers.
