Filter can alter the characteristics of a beam of light. Absorption and particularly wavelength selective absorption is an important factor in the function of the filters. Filter can change the overall intensity of the beam without affecting its spectral content (e.g., neutral density filters). It can also change or separate the spectral content of the beam through wavelength-selective absorption or reflection (e.g., high-pass, low-pass, edge, dichroic and interference filters).

1. Colored Glass Filter
Color Glass Filters are designed by their manufacturers to transmit and / or absorb different wavelengths of light.  They are short pass, long pass, band pass, ultraviolet, infrared, heat absorbing, and color temperature conversion filters. 
 
2. Interference Filter
Interference filters are wavelength-selective by virtue of the interference effects that take place between the incident and reflected waves at the thin-film boundaries.
 
3. Neutral Density Filter
Neutral Density Glass Type:are used to attenuate incident radiation without altering its spectral distribution. The neutral density value is related to the transmittance.
 
Metallic Coating Type: are glass or quartz substrates with a precision metallic coating (Inconel) that provides uniform attenuation across a wide spectral range.
