Ursolic acid is a natural substance presented in many plants, including apples, basil, bilberries, cranberries, elder flower, peppermint, rosemary, lavender, oregano, thyme, hawthorn, and prunes. It often is used in cosmetics and medicine because of its anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antitumor, antiulcer and antiviral properties.

Ursolic acid has proven active properties for both topical as well as internal applications. It also has very low dermatological toxicity, which makes it valuable as an ingredient in a wide range of cosmetic and medical products.

Ursolic acid can be used for hair care products and scalp treatments because it enhances blood flow on the top level of the skin, and improves scalp condition and the flow of nutrients to the root of the hair. These capabilities make it useful for treating dandruff and scalp irritations.

Ursolic acid is also used in anti-aging products because it repels oil in the skin, increases the skin's elasticity by restoring collagen, keeps skin moisturized and suppresses production of UV-A induced reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation.
