Herbal remedy. Fresh nettle leaves contain histamine, serotonin,
acetylcholine, formic acid, leukotrienes, flavonoids (including
rutin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, camferol**-O-rutinoside), silicic
acid, essential oil, potassium ions, nitrates. Nettle juice has a
diuretic effect; a number of studies have shown efficacy in
rheumatism. The hemostatic properties of nettle leaves are
associated with the content of vitamin K. In addition, the
biologically active substances of nettle leaves stimulate
erythropoiesis, normalize lipid metabolism, have a choleretic and
anti-inflammatory effect, and improve regeneration processes.
Herbal preparations of nettle increase the contractility of the
smooth muscles of the uterus.
The nettle root contains steroids (including beta-sitosterol,
stigmasterol, campesterol, stigmast**-en**-one), lecithins,
polysaccharides (glucans, glucogalacturonans, acidic water-soluble
arabinogalactans with immunostimulating effect on sculpin) ,
lignans, ceramides. It has been shown that nettle root promotes an
increase in urine volume, increases the maximum urine flow and
reduces the amount of residual urine.
