Hibiscus flower is obtained from rossele a herbaceous shrub of the Malvaceae family. It (Bissap, as it is called in Senegal, Karkade in Sudan, Sorrels or Zobo in Nigeria) is a valuable crop with high concentration of vitamin C and have been proven to medically reduce high blood pressure. It is used to produce Hibiscus jellies, jams, fruit pastes, traditional medicines, teas, syrups and refreshing drinks that are found in almost every market stall in Europe, Arab countries and aAfrica.

Nigeria is among the major producers and suppliers of Hibiscus flower into the world market.

Hibiscus flower grows nearly throughout the year, though its peak production is during the dry season of November to April of the following year.
